From the Late Greek name Χριστοφορος (Christophoros) meaning "bearing ખ્રિસ્ત", derived from Χριστος (Christos) combined with φερω (phero) "to bear, to carry". Early Christians used it as a metaphorical name, expressing that they carried Christ in their hearts.
